History of Kingston This Week
Kingston This Week began under the Kingston News banner in 1972 under the ownership of Howard Sly.
The newspaper was produced in an office on Brock Street every Wednesday. It was printed at various locations including Gananoque and Belleville.
The newspaper was renamed Kingston This Week in 1975 after it was purchased by long-time publisher Cameron Inglis. About 15 years ago, publication moved to anO’Connor Drive plant in Kingston’s west end.
The paper moved to its 677 Gardiners Rd. location in the early ’70s. The newspaper was one of the first original Gardiners Road businesses back when the road was only two lanes.
The paper became a twice-weekly publication — Tuesdays and Fridays — in 1985.
Kingston This Week spent more than 30 years at its 677 Gardiners Rd. location. The newspaper moved two buildings south to 607 Gardiners Rd. in November 2001 just before the old building was demolished for commercial development.
The paper’s distribution centre is still located on O’Connor Drive.
Today, Kingston This Week is distributed to more than 55,000 homes in the new City of Kingston, Loyalist Township and surrounding areas.
